Hello, I'm Amber Barger.

I’m a multi-credentialed Master Certified Coach with subject matter expertise in behavior change and a track record of designing effective talent development initiatives at scale

It all started when...

I learned about appreciative inquiry and community participatory development in the United States Peace Corps. From the three years I spent in the Mongolian countryside advising and coaching entrepreneurs and community leaders, I cultivated a love for accelerating purposeful people doing meaningful work in the world.

Soon after, I joined a movement to promote educational equality for all in our nation’s lowest performing schools, and contributed by training and coaching the fantastic individuals doing this work to do it even better. My unique point of view continued to develop in my graduate school studies as I learned academic and research-based approaches to enabling and sustaining change.

I see myself as a thought partner and strategic change agent – from coaching behavior change with individuals to facilitating large-scale change in communities and organizations.

I believe a better working world is one in which organizations activate the greatness within each of their people to create long-term value.

My credentials include...

Almost fifteen years of experience as a director, consultant, and coach with primary focus areas of learning, leadership development, change management, and organizational development. I’ve worked in a wide variety of industries, including the government and public sector, healthcare, financial services, consumer products, technology, higher education, and energy.

I have a Master of Science in Learning and Organizational Change from Northwestern University, where I conducted a research study on servant leadership in non-profit organizations. My coach-specific education is from the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching, and I hold the Master Certified Coach (MCC) credential from the International Coaching Federation, which is reserved for the top 4% of coaches in the industry. My undergraduate business marketing degree is from The University of Texas at Austin.

I’m currently a people advisory services consultant at Ernst & Young. In my free time I serve on the Downtown YMCA Board of Directors and teach a leadership coaching course at Rice University.

To be at the forefront of the latest adult learning and leadership development research, I'm currently a doctoral candidate at Columbia University.
